Portofino Italy

Portofino can be reached the best by sea. That’s not because of the scenic view but mainly because of the curvy and narrow road (the only one, by the way) where youcould be scared to death when a bus approaches which driver knows the bends perfectly or the approaching Ferraris … again with drivers who know this route.

This somewhat tricky entrance might be the reason why this place stayed such an exclusive one being the home for successfull writers like Guy de Maupassant and Truman Capote – and Hollywood celebrities, especially during the 50s and 60s of last century.

And even the trees are handsome in Portofino, this small but perfectly coiffured coastal village that sits on its own peninsula, seemingly upping the exclusivity factor by mere geography. Hotels here are hushed and headily priced, but a drink by Portofino’s yacht-filled harbour or a stroll around its designer shops can be easily enjoyed on a day trip from Genoa.
